Song selection
Minh Chau, my teammate, and I have decided to choose Tek It by Cafuné, an indie rock/pop. It features certain conventions from songs of the same genre like soft, dreamy vocals, heavy guitars and strong electronic beats. The melody is catchy - when listening to it, the song evokes nostalgic emotions from both Chau and I. The song explores themes of heartbreak and moving on to a new life chapter.
We have decided that our theme for the music video would surround the topics of LGBTQ+ and coming-of-age, reaching adulthood. The song has a nostalgic melody and it can be interpreted as the artist reminiscing of their past. The lyrics also embraced the feeling of missing someone in their past but at the same time the need to move on with a new chapter in their life: "I watch you/so long nice to know you I'll be moving on". Therefore, our initial visualisation for the music video resembles quite a lot: story of the artist discovering nostalgic objects while packing to leave and start a new journey.
