Research Summary
Throughout my research, I explored the process of producing and promoting a music video, a digipak, and a social media account. By analyzing the products made by other peers and professionals, I now have a better view of what the products should be like and the common technical skills as well as marketing strategies required to produce them.
Additionally, I got to learn more about the music video industry, especially when the music video was first made and how it developed over time. I also discovered theorist Andrew Goodwin and his theory of the same elements that make a music video successful. Furthermore, I found that different genres of music videos also have different conventions as I dived into pop and indie-rock. By applying the knowledge of the patterns I collected from the audience survey responses, I can make sure that my products’ genre and message can be easily identified as my audience would feel familiar with them.
Finally, researching institutions helped me learn about the directing style coming from different music video directors of my genre and how artists and products must work to encourage more profit and support from the audience. For the final product, I will know how to plan my artist’s content on social media and what my products should be like to support the label company.
